I have never heard a good word about the bloke from people i know who have known him and worked with him. The general view being that he is very arrogant and quite moody.

Of course he's a playing legend and home grown
But most knew about how he could always get yer a ticket for a few bob even when assistant manager
The great but dodgy boozers , The Brit The Greyhound , Reflections etc
Finally how Arry boy stabbed Billy in the back and Frank just went along with it

To me, Frank Lampard is up there, but behind, Bonds, Brooking and Devonshire. He was a very, very good full back who should have played more times for England - a hard defender who was also crucial to our attacking play, setting up plenty of goals and scoring quite a few, too. Also a good captain when Bill was absent. Brooking and Devonshire shone more because of where they played and ,of course, their brilliance. Frank always seemed to me a rather shy type off the field. So was Bill, of course, but as others have said, he had that swashbuckling style. Lucky to have been around when we had them all.

Club Appearances
799 Billy Bonds (1967-1988) 670 Frank Lampard (1967-1985) 647 Bobby Moore (1958-1974) 643 Trevor Brooking (1967-1984) 596 Alvin Martin (1978-1996)
Moore, Brooking and Bonds with Stands, yet none for Lampard., So I guess the Club feel similar in the "Legend" status.
Don't get me wrong, I'm the same growing up with Brooking and Bonds as heroes whereas Frank was just a good pro and servant.
Maybe it's down to Trevor's skills and ability and swashbuckling Billy was the Captain. I think Greenwood had to choose between Bonds and Lampard for Captain and went with Bonds. Would be interesting history wise if he had chosen Lampard.

So would he sit in along the likes of Steve Potts and Mark Noble then? Good players and long serving players?
Yes IMO Lampard Senior definitely would.

Before my time but interesting comments. I always assumed he was a legend of a player for the club but sounds more like he was a good servant. Maybe because he was in the Cup winning sides

Must confess that there is an old clip of the Everton Semi Final Replay and in the interviews at the end the reporter chats with Lampard and Devonshire. Dev is happy as Larry and laughs and jokes around, where Lampard does come across as a bit dour considering he has just scored the goal to get to Wembley.

Our second best ever LB behind Julian, imo.
Was a proper miserable sod though, we used to go over Chadwell Heath in the school holidays and most of the time he would tell the kids to fuck off if asking for his autograph. Fair play, though.

So good he has his own goals collection on Youtube!
Liverpool in 1974 and Den Haag in 1976 are particular favourites of mine, aside from the goosebumps watching THAT goal again!
I don't know if it's been forgotten but one unusual thing about him as a left back was that he was actually right footed (obviously two footed though).
Also, in his book Bobby Moore said he was the best defender at the club.
I met him at one of the end of season dinners and he was a really nice guy but this was before Junior soured the relationship.

I rated him as a full back plenty of lovely footballing goals were scored at the old ground starting with him bringing up the ball on the left. The two story's I have with him are on buying a 80's cup final ticket in a pub from a bloke who had more then a hand full saying he got them from someone who knew Frank, just the sign of the times plenty of players did it I guess. The other which I have told on here before was as young kid on the wall in the south bank watching Bobby Moore stand near the post to defend a corner then Frank shouted out to him 'fucking mark someone you cunt '' As a young kid hearing someone talking like that to Bobby the god shook me to the core and no doubt brought on my bed wetting.
But all is forgiven for that semi final goal ! enjoy the moment they say ....and we did.

Chester Rd yes mate that's the side of him that was difficult to separate the footballer and the man outside of football, so many bad stories out there of him as a landlord and whilst in the 60's and 70's touting wasn't frowned upon when players sold tickets to top up their income, he was at a different level.
